A new dawn for offspring of Saint Agastya

Thiruvananthapuram , Mar 30 (VSK) The first-day after the Ramanavami brought a new dawn to the lives of tribal community, considered as the offspring of saint Agastya, when a new Shiva temple, a new school building, and a new office for Sevavriti were thrown open for them.

Pooyam Thirunal Rani Gauri Parvathi Bai of Travancore Royal Palace inaugurated the temple, Vanavasi Vikas Kendra Kerala Stat President Palliyara Raman opened the school building and RSS Kerala Prant Pracharak P R Sashidharan inaugurated the Sevavriti office.

The planning for a new school building of Agastya Bala Samskara Kendra was started since teaching became impossible for many days due to natural calamities in the forest.Seva Bharati had initiated service activities 32 year ago among the 28 tribal settlements having a population of 2,000 Adivasis in 500 families.

Delivering the inaugural speech, Pooyam Thirunal Rani Gauri Parvathi Bai said reasonable demand put forward by tribal community should be considered favourably by the authorities. They should not be ignored in the name of stringent laws, rules and regulation.Exhorting to the volunteers of Sevabharati to transform the present facilities into a pilgrimage centre of service, P R Sasidharan suggested that new building of Sevavriti can be used for providing training in Yoga, spirituality and traditional knowledge including herbal treatments.

Delivering the key note address, Kshetriya Sampark Pramukh A R Mohan there were concerted effort to keep away tribal community from the main stream. The service should be considered as everyone’s responsibility and should not be delivered as mercy, which is the viewpoint of the RSS, he added.
The aim of the service activities is not to produce people who extend their hand for other’s mercy but to make tribal brotherhood in the forest self-sufficient.He said 80 per cent f Member of Parliaments who represent SC, ST, etc, had studied in the schools of Vanavasi Kalyanaasharam.

In the year 2012, Agasthya Bala Samskara Kendram of Poothode received Uthishta Seva Puraskar in recognition to their selfless services towards education of tribal kids in the forest areas of Agasthya koodam. The award of Rs one lakh was given away by ex-cricket caption Rahul Dravid on behalf of a Bangalore-based cultural organisation. This amount was the first contribution for the construction of the new building.An ambulance was also handed over to the Seva Kendra by Seva Bharati District President D Vijayan during the occasion.

Seva Bharati State President Dr Presannamoorhty, a retired HOD of Trivandrum Medical College, presided over the function. Seva Bharati State organising Secretary U V Haridas, Director of SUT Medical College Gauri Kamashi, BJP District President Adv. Suresh, Adivasi Maha Sabha State President Mohan Triveni, Vidya Niketan State Secretary K Mohan kumar, Deputy Ranger K Ravindran and others also attended the event.During the occasion, tribal community members including Mallankani, Adichankani, Rajamma were felicitated.
