Chinmaya Birth Centenary Celebrations to Begin Today

chinmaya mission06 May 2015, KOCHI: The global launch of the birth centenary celebrations of Swami Chinmayananda, founder of the Chinmaya Mission, will commence at the Ernakulathappan ground here today.   The function will be inaugurated by former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam at 6:00 pm.

The three-day programme will mark the beginning of the birth centenary celebrations that will last for one year. The inaugural function will also see the launch of the ‘Home for the Homeless Project’ by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. The initiative is aimed at building houses for the homeless families across the State.

The morning session will have talks by Manipal University former VC Dr B M Hegde and Mathrubhumi MD M P Veerendrakumar. Following the inaugural function, Chinmaya Yuvakendra all-India director Swami Mitrananda will address the gathering.

The second day of the programme will be marked by a ‘yati puja’ and ‘aacharya samgamam’, an programme for honouring sages from different traditions.

On the final day of the programme, a complete Geeta chanting, with the participation of more than 10,000 persons, will be held. The programme will be inaugurated by District Collector M G Rajama-nickam.

At the valedictory function, the ‘Chinmaya Sandesha Vahini’, a 238-day-long all-India tour by Chinmaya Mission global head Swami Tejomayananda will be flagged off.

“Various cultural programmes, including Mohiniyattam performance by Gopika Varma and fusion music performance by Chinmayaj Naada Bindu, have also been arranged as part of the event,” the organisers said.
