City beach to witness spiritual gathering

Over two lakh people will converge on the Kozhikode beach on today afternoon for the Mahabharatam Dharmaraksha Sangamam.

The programme is being organised by various Hindu spiritual organisations such as Chinmaya Mission, Sri Ramakrishna Mission, Mata Amritanandamayi Math and Kolathur Advaitha Ashramam. The participants are from the districts of Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram and Palakkad.

Puja

Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev will inaugurate the programme at 6 p.m. The head of the Sivagiri Mutt, Swami Prakashananda, will deliver the keynote address after conducting a puja of the waters collected from all the rivers in Kerala.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudy will speak on the occasion. Organising committee chairman and Kolathur Advaitha Ashramam head Swami Chidanandapuri will preside over the function.

Vazhoor Theertha Pada Asramam head Swami Prajnanananda Theethapadar, Santhigiri Asramam organising secretary Swami Gururathnam Jnanathapasini, Amritanandamayi Math Acharya Swami Amritakripanandapuri, Chinmaya Mission Kerala head Swami Vivekananda Saraswati, and Kozhikode Sarada Math Acharya Pravrajika Mathrika Prana Mataji will address the gathering.

SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan; Akkiraman Kalidasa Bhattathirippad of Yoga Kshema Sabha; N.K. Neelakandan of Kerala Pulaya Maha Sabha; M.T. Viswanathan, A.K.B. Nair and Olympian P.T. Usha will take part in the programme.

Leaders from 60 spiritual centres would speak, the organisers said.

Kozhikode Mata Amritanandamayi Math Madathipathi Brahmacharya Vivekamrita Chaithanya will present the Sangamam resolution. Swami Dharmananda Hanummaddas of Thiruvananthapuram Kalariyil Dharmikkam will read out the pledge.

Chinmaya Mission Kozhikode Centre Acharya Brahmachari Mukunda Chaithanya will introduce the sanyasis while Hindu Aikya Vedi State general secretary E.S. Biju will introduce the leaders of spiritual centres and Hindu organisations.

Cultural programmes

The organisers said that the programmes would commence from 5.30 a.m. Cultural programmes will start around 3 p.m. There will be a visual presentation based on the Mahabharata by Kanakadas Perambra at 4.30 p.m.
