Journalism gains importance, says DD Deputy Director

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 15: The concept of responsible journalism has gained much importance following the emergence of technology driven social media platforms creating tremendous influence in the society, according to Doordarshan Deputy Director Reshmi Roja Thushara Nair, here today.

Inaugurating the a two-day Citizen Journalism course, organised by Viswa Samvad Kendra at Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram, she said the new social media platforms have changed the traditional media culture in the world.

Opining that journalism is a state of mindset, she said the application of mobile phones have changed the traditional media concept, but the only issue is that it should be in a responsible way.There should be a concerted effort to educate people to use it more responsibly, she added.

Though the medias are enjoying unlimited power, they are also subjected to severe criticism due to the failure of fulling its responsibility to the society.

Stressing the need of a team effort to inculcate social values among the public for a healthy society, she said sensationalism and lack of responsibility would not help to create a constructive social mindset.

RSS Saha Prant Pracharak K Venu delivered the key note address and Janmabhoomi Resident Editor K Kunjhikannan presided over the function.
