Muslim Personal Law discriminatory towards women: Justice Kemal Pasha

Kozhikode: Justice Kemal Pasha said Sunday that the Muslim Personal law favours men more and is discriminatory towards women.

Justice Pasha said that women are not getting the rights which the Quran guaranteed for them. He was speaking at the inauguration of a seminar on Domestic violence prohibition law organized by “Punarjani” , a women advocates’ initiative.

“Discrimination is practised against Muslim woman in matters including Talaq. If men can have four wives simultaneously , why can’t women have four four husbands? When delivering verdicts, religious heads should ponder whether they are qualified to pronounce verdicts on religious matters.

Justice Kemal Pasha also said that women will have to help themselves and come forward if they want to escape from domestic abuse.
