75 years for present Sangha Prarthana

Present Sangh Prarthana was first publicly sung by RSS Pracharak Yadav Rao Joshi on May 18, 1940 in Sangh Shiksha Varg held at Nagpur. During the same period, in another Sangh Shiksha Varg held in Pune, the Sangh Prarthana was sung by RSS pracharak Anant Rao Kale.

UsuallyDSC02699_resize prayers are intended for personal benefits. In prayers, we praise the deity, and ask him whatever we want. But in Sangh Prarthana, we offer no condition. In the earlier days of Sangh, the Prarthana used is not the current one, but two slokas from Marathi and Hindi. The prarthana now we used to chant had developed in the Sindhi Maha baithak in 1939, in which the common standards likes ganavesha, commands etc. are developed in the current form.

Nana Sahib Talatule wrote the prose of prarthana and Narayan Narahari Biday made it a poem from the prose. Biday said after writing the prarthana : “Doctorji was the real poet, and I am only an instrument.” Then Yadav Rao Joshi, who is a senior pracharak of Sangh composed it with its musical notations.

Prarthana is not the song of RSS, but it is the Mantra of Sangh. It is unique.

A mantra has four aspects.
1. Pronunciation     2. Raaga    3. Meaning      4. Bhava

The mantra always has it’s effect even if you chant it without knowing its exact meaning, but if you chant it with the complete knowledge about its meaning then the resulting power will be enormous. There are two different meaning – word by word meaning and the wholesome meaning , an inner meaning.

Usually people pray for personal needs. In Gita , Lord Krishna says – “ There are four type of people: Aartha, Jijnjaasu, Arthaartha and Jnjaani.” The Jnjani is the one who had realized the God. All four are acceptable to me, but the Jnjani is the one who is dearer to me.”

BHARAT MATA_resize_resizePrarthana has two parts – first four lines are in first person, which each person commits himself for the motherland. In Sangh, unlike from others, we are committing individually but asking blessings as a whole. We never ask anything for our personal needs, but we always ask something for fulfill the work of our motherland.

Even a too timid animal shows extraordinary strength, when it feels its siblings in danger. That is the power of Vatsalya. In the first line of prarthana, we says – Oh our dear motherland, we salute you always. Here we add an adjective “Sada Vatsale” means our motherland is always showing Vatsalya. This is a statement of cultured people, enlightened people. This reflects the love of great patriots for their motherland (Like Vivekananda). The second line says, I am so indebted to you since I am here with all happiness.

In 3rd  line there are two adjectives – Maha mangale and Punyabhoome. In 4th  line we offer all our lives, talents, wealth and  all which we have at her feet. The unique feature of Sangh, since it says “We Live for her”.

Doctorji says : “I don’t teach How to die for her, but I teach How to live for her”.  A person who knows how to live for the country will always be ready to die for her. Sangh is not here to bring or build a Hindu Rashtra – because this is already a Hindu Rashtra, it was so for thousands of years. Sangh is here to change the condition of this Hindu Rashtra, to bring “Param Vaibhavam” to her.

The second part of Sangh prarthana introduce ourselves as the Organs of Hindu Rashtra. Organs have different talents, functions, attitudes… but we work for a common cause. The lines “Thvadheeyaaya Kaaryaaya…” states, we are here to work together for this Hindu Rashtra, for that please give us your blessings. In the next lines, we says, We are doing your work.
We need some qualities for that . So please give us :

1. Strength – Not to defeat others, but not to be defeated by others To complete your work without losing to those who oppose us.
2. Character (Seela) – Good Character (Suseela) – by which the whole world respect us.
3. Give us Srutham (Knowledge – which makes our way
4. Ugraveera Vratham – with which we are not afraid of our difficulties , and help is to deny the offerings of personal benefits without hesitation. This Vratha is inspiring us from within.
5. Dhyeya Nishtha  (Unchangeable  mind  in  goal)  –  that  will  give  us  the  ability  of adjustment and realize us that we are working for a higher goal.

In  the last two lines, we pray, by using this organized strength, we secure the Dharma and we will make this nation in the Eternal position of prosperity (Param Vaibhavam).

The “Bharat Matha ki jai” is not a slogan. It is a statement of fact. If the above said things happen, them the world will bow its head in front of Bharath Matha.  If we chant this mantra with a sincere feeling, then the lord, for sure will grand us all that we wanted.
