Thiruvananthapuram: During an Onam celebration event organized at the Kerala University headquarters, SFI symbolically ‘stomped down’ Vice Chancellor Dr. Mohanan Kunnummal. The SFI’s act depicted Vamanan stomping down Mahabali. Following the symbolic ‘cremation’ of Kalady University VC Dr. Cisa Thomas, this incident involving the Kerala VC also insulted Hindu deities by depicting the stomping scene.
SFI had announced protests against the VC regarding LLB evaluation, prompting heavy police security at the university headquarters. However, accompanied by festive music and a large Che Guevara flag, individuals dressed as Mahabali and Vamanan arrived under the guise of an Onam celebration. Due to it being marked as an Onam celebration, the police allowed them past the barricades.
Abusive language was used alongside Onam songs, with female students also participating in the demonstration. Upon reaching the office, shouting aloud that the VC was being stomped down to the netherworld, an SFI activist dressed as Vamanan stepped on the head of a person who had the VC’s picture tied to their head and was pretending to worship. The crowd accompanying them cheered loudly. The musical instruments were played so loudly that the university’s functioning was severely disrupted.
