New Delhi: Delhi Court, on Wednesday (May 25), sentenced Islamic terrorist Yasin Malik to lifetime imprisonment in a terror funding case. Special judge Praveen Singh also imposed Rs. 10 Lakh fine on Malik, who earlier pleaded guilty to all the charges levelled against him by NIA.

Earlier, NIA sought the death penalty for Kashmiri separatists and told the special judge that Yasin Malik was responsible for the genocide and exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley.

NIA court, on Thursday (May 19), convicted Islamic terrorist Yasin Malik, who fomented separatism in Jammu and Kashmir after he pleaded guilty.

According to the PTI report, Malik said he would not contest the charges levelled against him, including Section 16 (terrorist act), 17 (raising funds for the terrorist act), 18 (conspiracy to commit terrorist act) and 20(being member of the terrorist gang or organisation) of UAPA and sections 120-B(criminal conspiracy) and 124-A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code.

Yasin Malik pleaded guilty to all the charges levelled against him in a case related to the terrorist and secessionist activities that took place in Jammu and Kashmir in 2017.

The court also sought an affidavit from Yasin Malik regarding his financial assessment and asked NIA to submit a report related to his financial assessment, reported ANI.

The case linked with Yasin Malik is related to the terrorist and secessionist activities that took place in 2017.
Special Judge, who earlier held that ‘prima facie’ established that Yasin Malik received funds to create terror in Kashmir in 2017, will hear the arguments regarding the case on May 25.

Yasin Malik played a key role in secessionist and separatist activities in Kashmir during the 1990s. He was involved in killing Justice Neelkanth Ganju, who ordered the death sentence for a JKLF terrorist, Maqbool Bhatt and the murder of 5 IAF officers in the early 1990s.

NIA arrested Yasin Malik in 2019 in a terror funding case it opened in 2017.

NIA, in its FIR, said the separatist leaders received funding from Pakistan and terror organisations, including Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hiz-ul-Mujahideen, to create trouble in Kashmir through organising strikes and protests, burning schools and stone-pelting.

According to NIA, Yasin Malik, during the investigation, revealed that he played an instrumental role in bringing all separatist groups together to spearhead violent protests in the valley in 2016, which led to an economic shut down for four months.
