Former Member of Parliament and MLA, A. P. Abdullakutty has joined the list of prominent leaders joining the BJP in Kerala. He joined the saffron party in New Delhi by taking membership from BJP Working President, J. P. Nadda. Minister of State for External Affairs, V. Muraleedharan, was present at the occasion.
Interestingly, Abdullakutty began his political life with the SFI and rose as a leader of CPI(M) and had represented the party in the Lok Sabha. However, he was expelled from the communist party in 2009 when he praised the Gujarat development model headed by Narendra Modi.
His next stint was with the Indian National Congress and also represented Congress in Parliament. He had represented the Kannur constituency twice in the Lok Sabha. He also served as an MLA in the Kerala Assembly from 2011 to 2014.
Surprisingly, he was expelled from the Congress too, this month, for praising Narendra Modi. He had equated Modi to Mahatma Gandhi and added that Modi won the 2019 Lok Sabha elections because he successfully implemented the Gandhian ideals.
Abdullakutty has vowed to bring Muslims more closer to the BJP and believes in the developmental mantra of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
