Kochi: Jamsheer (34), a resident of Athanikkal House, Thekke Vavannur, Kootanad, Palakkad, has been remanded in custody for attempting to open the emergency door of a flying aircraft and damaging its glass panes. He remained aggressive when produced before the Angamaly Magistrate Court yesterday. He flew into a rage when the lawyer representing him tried to get him to sign a vakalath, snatching and throwing away the file containing documents. As police intervened to calm him down, he also smashed a chair lying nearby, though no separate case has been registered for this courtroom incident. After completing court procedures, Jamsheer was shifted to the Aluva Sub-Jail around 12:15 PM.
Jamsheer had boarded a Batik Air flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kochi on Thursday night. Seated in a window seat near the emergency exit, he turned aggressive and attempted to open the emergency door roughly half an hour before the aircraft landed in Kochi. He tried to force open the emergency door three times, punched and shattered the window panel, and threatened co-passengers by shouting that he would kill everyone. When the flight crew and fellow passengers questioned his actions, he verbally abused and threatened them. Consequently, the crew and passengers overpowered him, tied his hands, and handed him over to the Nedumbassery Police as soon as the flight landed in Kochi.
The grave incident on board has raised significant suspicions. Critics point out that, given his aggressive behavior in court, police appear to be attempting to portray him as mentally unstable. However, his wife, family members, and locals attest that he has no history of mental health issues. After completing his graduation, he went to Malaysia for work and is generally described by acquaintances as a calm person. At the same time, experts note that many individuals behind aviation sabotage attempts often appear calm. Had a catastrophe occurred, it would have shaken the nation, and observers also note that foreign forces have been attempting to instigate various issues within Bharat. According to his statement to the police, Jamsheer claimed he felt suicidal and wanted to take others along with him. He had not consumed alcohol, and reports indicate that he acted with clear awareness and intent.
