Kochi: Famous Malayalam – English poet and literary critic K. Satchidanandan appointed as the president of Kerala Sahitya Akademi, and he will assume office soon. He has earlier worked as the secretary of Kendra Sahitya Akademi from 1996 to 2006. The 75 year old Sachidananadan replaced writer Vaishakan who crossed 80 in the Akademi. A left wing politician Sachidanandan served Kendra Sahitya Akademi as secretary for 10 years and won Kendra Sahitya Akademi award five times. Born in Thrissur, the cultural capital of Kerala, he worked as lecturer since 1992 and after voluntary retirement took up the editorship of Indian Literature, the Indian National Academy journal. Then moved to School of Translation Studies and Training as director associated with IGNOU New Delhi.
