Kalady (Ernakulam) : A protest staged by the SFI against the Vice-Chancellor of the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, has sparked major controversy. While a Syndicate meeting was underway, SFI activists conducted a mock funeral protest insulting the female Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Ciza Thomas.
The Save University Campaign Committee has lodged a complaint with the Minister for Home Affairs. Committee members stated in their complaint that this vile and undignified protest targeting the VC—who holds the highest office in the university—inflicted severe emotional distress and mental trauma upon her.
The committee noted that instead of democratic protests in higher education institutions, the SFI continues to adopt methods of character assassination and the brutal mental harassment of educators.
They pointed out that similar incidents—such as building a mock tomb for the principal of Victoria College, Palakkad, in 2016, and blockading and insulting the female principal of the Thiruvananthapuram Law College—serve as clear evidence of this pattern. The failure of the CPI(M) leadership to condemn such abusive protest methods is the primary reason for their repetition.
The Save University Campaign Committee has demanded legal action against the SFI members responsible for causing deep mental anguish to the Vice-Chancellor, as well as against the police personnel who failed in their official duties.
