Kollam: Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) which enquires into the incident of abandoned Pak-made bullets has interrogated Welfare Party leader. Now, Party appears to be trying to counter ATS by raking up the communal sentiments.
ATS interrogated Shafeek Chozhiyakkad of Kulathoopuzha, Kollam District. He is the district secretary of Welfare Party, the political offshoot of Jamaat-E-Islami. He was interrogated at Kulathoopuzha Police Station on February 16. He has been evading a visit to the police station, for interrogation, despite the police instruction since the last one month. He has been siting excuses that he was busy. Shafeeq alleged, during a press conference, that ATS was purposely trying to trap him in the case. He said, he had travelled in Wynad and Kottayan and several other districts for organisational activities in his capacity as the state convener of Party’s Land Agitation Action Council. It is the part of his Party work. He demanded an explanation from ATS for the inquiries into the financial dealings of himself and his family. He would complain to DGP against ATS. He said, he would not go before ATS until he gets a prior notice carrying clear information regarding the case. Party state secretary Sajeed Khalid said that Shafeeq enjoys absolute support of the Party.
Bullets were found on February 22, 2020
Fourteen Pak-made bullets were found in the forest near Kaluvettamkuzhi Muppathadippalam at Kulathooppuzha on February 22, 2020. They were found packed in yellow envelope on the roadside.
The incident is a proof to establish that eastern zone of Kollam district has turned a haven for the religious fundamentalists. Sixty bullets, which were smuggled into Kerala from Wynad, were found in Kiliyanthira Excise Check Post at Iritti, Wynad, the same day, that is February 22, 2020. They carried the logo of POF, Pakistan Ordnance Factory, the suppliers to the Pak military. Central Inquiry agencies like Military Intelligence, and NIA examined the site and the bullets before they confirmed the Pak origin. Even though various detective agencies of the state of Kerala conducted enquiries no clue has been traced regarding the people behind abandoning the bullets on the wayside. Special Enquiry Team had opened a camp office in the PWD IB at Kulathooppuzha.
