Kochi: The minority Hindu community in Bangladesh must be protected, and the current events there are deeply distressing, said Sivagiri Mutt Acharya Sivaswaroopananda Swamikal. He was speaking at the inauguration of a protest vigil at Vanchi Square, near Ernakulam High Court Junction, against the atrocities being carried out by Islamic extremists against Hindus and other religious minorities in Bangladesh.
Swamikal stated that the news coming from Bangladesh is extremely painful. Hindus have always welcomed people of all castes and religions into their fold. They have never traveled to any place with messages of hatred or violence, be it for religious conversion or human slaughter. He questioned what wrong the Hindus in Bangladesh could have done to deserve such treatment.
Hindu Aikya Vedi State President R.V. Babu, delivering the keynote address, said he attended the protest vigil with profound sorrow. He claimed that efforts are underway to transform Bangladesh into a completely Islamic state. He criticized both the CPI(M) and Congress, stating they are afraid to even name the Jamaat-e-Islami, the group allegedly responsible for the unrest, due to vote-bank politics.
The meeting, organized by the Ernakulam Bangladesh Religious Minority Solidarity Committee, was presided over by Sabarimala Karma Samithi General Convener S.J.R. Kumar. Other prominent speakers included KAS State President Kevin Peter, Ernakulam Karyogam General Secretary P. Ramachandran, Sun India District President M.P. Jason, Brahma Sabha State Vice President Anantha Subrahmaniam, Kudumbi Federation State General Secretary S. Sudheer, RSS District Sangh Chalak Advocate P. Vijayakumar, BJP District President Advocate K.S. Shaiju, BMS District General Secretary Dhanesh Neerikode, BJP District Treasurer Sreekuttan Thundathil, and VHP State Joint Secretary Abinu Suresh.
The protest march, which began at Ernakulam Boat Jetty, was inaugurated by filmmaker Major Ravi. He described the protest as unique and extended his greetings and best wishes to everyone who participated. Hundreds joined the march, which concluded with a meeting at the High Court Junction.
