Bengal Post Poll Violence – CBI registers 10 more cases related to violence and other offences, arrested two accused and conducts searches at 15 locations

Kolkata: CBI has registered ten more cases in compliance of the orders of  Hon’ble High Court at Calcutta, passed in connection with WPA(P) 142, 143, 144, 145, 146, 147, 148, 149 & 169 of 2021, dated 19.08.2021 and taken over the investigation of these cases, earlier registered in different Police Stations of West Bengal on various allegations.

Of this set of cases, 1st case was earlier registered at Police Station Dinhata District Cooch Bihar on the allegations that the accused took the nephew of complainant to Rajaghora on 03.05.2021. Later, the said nephew was found lying smeared in blood by the bank of Rajaghora river. The police took him to Dinhata Hospital where he died during treatment; 2nd case was earlier registered at Police Station Sitalkuchi District Cooch Bihar on the allegations that the accused, according to the complainant, had killed his brother and left his body in the bamboo field on the western side of their house; 3rd case was earlier registered at Police Station Jagaddal on the allegations that the accused along with unknown others attacked the house of the complainant and vandalized the belongings. The accused allegedly attacked the complainant & his family members with lathis, bamboo and severely injured them. Due to such injury, the mother of the complainant died at Kalyani JNM Hospital; the 4th case was earlier registered at Police Station Jamalpur on the allegations that the accused along with unknown persons attacked the house of a victim in search of him & his son and vandalized the house. The accused allegedly found his wife & struck her with sharp weapon. She was rushed to Jamalpur Hospital where she was declared dead. Later, it was further alleged, the victim & his brother were also severely injured by such persons; the 5th case was earlier registered at Police Station Ilambazar on the allegations that the accused attacked the house of the complainant and started vandalizing it. Both the sons of the complainant & their one friend tried to prevent them and on altercation, the miscreants allegedly started beating them. The elder son of the complainant died on the spot due to such injury while his other son and their associate were severely injured; the 6th case was earlier registered at Police Station Sitalkuchi on the allegations that the unknown persons, who according to the complainant, started beating arbitrarily her husband and fired on bullet to him. He was rushed to Dinhata hospital where he died during treatment; the 7th case was earlier registered at Police Station Mollarpur on the allegations that 7 accused attacked the father of the complainant with shovel, iron rod, sharp weapons etc. It was further alleged that one hand & one leg of victim were broken and he was rushed to the hospital where he underwent treatment & finally died; the 8th case was earlier registered at Police Station Liluah District Howrah on the allegations that the accused attacked the house of the complainant in search of him and vandalized it. It was further alleged that the accused did not find the complainant at home, but found his wife whom they sexually harassed. It was also alleged that after some days, the accused again attacked the complainant with lathi & other weapons, but the complainant succeeded to flee. The complainant and his family remained out of their locality for several days and when they tried to return their home, the accused allegedly demanded Rs.10 lakh; the 9th case was registered at Police Station Liluah on the allegations that the accused attacked the house of the complainant and molested her both her daughters. It was further alleged that the accused vandalized the house of the complainant and threw bricks on it, which caused severe injury to the daughter of the complainant. Later, the said daughter was taken to hospital by Police; the 10th case was earlier registered at Police Station Kankurtala on the allegations that the accused attacked the complainant & his family members with iron rod, bamboo sticks etc. It was further alleged that the accused encircled brother of the complainant during such attack and killed him.

In pursuant to the investigation of one of the cases, registered on 25.08.2021 by CBI related to incident at Chapra, District Nadia, searches were conducted at 15 different locations and arrested two accused.

CBI has so far registered 21 cases and investigation is continuing in these cases.
