New Delhi. NIA Special Court, Ernakulam sentenced accused K.A. Anoop @ Anu, S/o Abu, North Paravoor, Ernakulam in Kalamassery bus burning case to 6 years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) and fine of Rs. 1,60,000/-.
The case was originally registered at PS Kalamassery, Ernakulam relating to hijacking and setting ablaze of a Government of Tamil Nadu bus, plying between Ernakulum and Salem on 9.9.2005 at about 2130 hrs by accused T. Nazeer and others in support of their demand for release of Abdul Nasar Madani, Chairman PDP, who was detained in Coimbatore Jail at that time. NIA had registered the case. After completion of investigation, NIA had filed charge-sheet against 13 accused persons including K.A. Anoop @ Anu, u/s 120B, 121A, 323, 364, 435, 506 (ii) IPC r/w 34 of IPC, Sec 4 of PDPP Act 1984 and Sec 16 (i) (b) & 18 of UA (P) Act 1967 on 07th December, 2010. Accused K.A. Anoop @ Anu, who was absconding abroad was arrested on 07.04.2016. 3. On 15.07.2021, NIA Special court, Ernakulam convicted K.A. Anoop @ Anu for offences u/s 120B, 121A, 323, 364, 435, 506 (ii) IPC r/w 34 of IPC, Sec 4 of PDPP Act 1984 and Sec 16 (i) (b) & 18 of UA (P) Act 1967. On 19.07.2021, NIA Special court sentenced the accused to 5 years of RI with fine of Rs. 25,000/- for commission of offences under section 120B of IPC, 5 years of RI with fine of Rs. 25,000/- for commission of offences under section 121A of IPC, 6 months of RI for commission of offences under section 323 of IPC, 4 months of RI with fine of Rs. 25,000/- under section 364 of IPC, 3 years of RI and fine of Rs. 10000/- under section 435 of IPC, 1 year of RI under section 506 (ii) of IPC r/w 34 of IPC, 4 years of RI and fine of Rs. 25,000/- under section 4 of PDPP Act 1984; 6 years of RI and fine of Rs. 25,000/- under section 16 (i) (b) & 6 years of RI and fine of Rs. 25,000/- under section 18 of UA (P) Act 1967. All sentences shall run concurrently.
