Kochi: Senior BJP leader P.P. Mukundan (Mukundettan) passed away. He was 77 years old. He died at 8 o’clock in the morning while undergoing treatment at Amrita Hospital, Ernakulam. From 1966 to 2007, he was a Pracharak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh for 41 years. He held the positions of RSS Pranth Samparka Pramukh, BJP State Organising Secretary, Kshethreeya Organising Secretary and Janmabhoomi Daily Managing Director.
He was born on December 1, 1946 to Krishnan Nair and Kulangaraiyath Kalyaniamma at Manathana in Kannur district. After his education, he became a full-time worker of the RSS in 1966 as a Vistarak in Kannur itself. Then he worked as Pracharak of Chengannur and Aluva Taluks, Pracharak of Thrissur District, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram Vibhags.
After that he travelled all over Kerala on the charge of Prantha Samparka Pramukh. In 1975, he was jailed for working against the emergency while he was a Thrissur Jilla pracharak.From 1988 to 1995 he also worked as the MD of Janmabhoomi newspaper. Assigned to BJP in 1991, P.P. Mukundan worked as the state organization secretary till 2005 and as the Dakshin Kshethreeya organization secretary till 2007.He was the chief organizer of Ekta Yatra in Kerala led by Dr. Murali Manohar Joshi.
