‘Swami Chinmayananda: A Spiritual Revolutionary’ on the occasion of 108th Birth Anniversary of Swami Chinmayananda
Kochi. RSS Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale Ji said, Swami Chinmayananda was a revolutionary in the spiritual realm. Swamiji empowered people by sharing knowledge and instilling self-confidence. He aspired to establish a global Hindu organization. He supported the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. He advocated for the creation of a Hindu vote bank. Many ridiculed him. Swamiji’s two great dreams, the Hindu organization and the grand Ram Mandir in Ram Janmabhoomi, were realized through RSS.
He was addressing a gathering at the Chinmaya-Shankaram 2024, on ‘Swami Chinmayananda: A Spiritual Revolutionary’ on the occasion of 108th Birth Anniversary of Swami Chinmayananda organized by The Chinmaya Mission.
When society was engulfed in consumerism and cultural emptiness, there emerged spiritual leaders who guided the society towards the right path, transcending notions of caste, community, and class. Swamiji’s life and thoughts had the depth of the ocean and the height of the Himalayas. He was a spiritual guru par excellence. Starting from Shankaracharya, Narayana Guru, Chattampi Swamikal, Mahatma Ayyankali, Mata Amrithananadamayi etc., Kerala has been the land of numerous spiritual masters. Swami Chinmayananda was the shining star among them.
Swami Chinmayananda and Swami Vivekanand shares a lot of similarities. As a youth, Balakrishna Menon, get inspired from thoughts of traditional ideologies. At the same time, he questioned rituals and blind beliefs. Even in his young age, he actively engaged in social issues. He wrote under the penname “Mochi” and spoke about the plight of the oppressed. He believed that every human is divine and serving them is equivalent to serving God. He propagated this idea.
“Mochi” refers to those who make shoes. Because of them, others are walking in the street without being hurt on the feet. Swami Chinmayananda later became the “mochi” of spirituality, made us to walk through it and made us comfortable, mentioned Dattatreya Hosabale Ji.
The Geeta Gyan Yagnas were Swamiji’s greatest contributions. He brought the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, and other scriptures to the masses. Just as Lord Shri Krishna imparted the teachings of the Gita in the Kurukshetra battlefield during the Dwapara Yuga. Swamiji did the same in the Kali Yuga. He called upon the entire Hindu community, saying “Klaibyam Masma Gama”. Shri Krishna did that to a single person Arjuna, but Balakrishnan did that to the entire society. He delivered discourses on the Gita in English. Many criticized him, but his focus was on spreading dharma through any means possible. The dissemination of Bharat’s wisdom to the entire world was his priority. Dharma is meant to be practiced. Swami Chinmayananda emphasized this in his teachings, Sarkaryavah ji said.
The global head of Chinmaya Mission, Swami Swaroopananda, welcomed the Sarkaryavah.
