Government of Kerala (GoK) has sought from the High Court of Kerala sufficient time to furnish with the details of the actions taken against the participants of the Namajapa yathra organised by Nair Service Society (NSS), the powerful community organisation of (Hindu) Nairs. NSS moved the Court in the wake of the case registered against more than 1000 identifiable participants including Sangeethkumar, the vice president of NSS.
NSS’s Counsel submitted before the Court that case has been taken against the NSS workers, for carrying out peaceful namajapa yathra, alleging that the participants blocked the road transport. He submitted that police can not accuse them for these charges. He said, FIR says, the yathra created inconveniences; what is wrong in carrying out a namajaapa yathra ?
The yathra was carried out in protest against the Speaker’s blasphemous comments against Lord Ganapati. NSS filed the petition praying for closing the case.
Since GoK requested for more time for filing the explanation, case has been adjourned.
Bhratiya Janatha Yuva Morcha carried out an angry protest march to Secretariat on August 8.
But, Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is softening its stand. It does not like to invite the Islamists’ wrath. It does not criticise the GoK in strong language. Because, they are in tight competition with ruling CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) in bagging the minority votes. They did not stage any strong protest in the assembly.
Meanwhile, the latest spiritual leader to condemn Speaker A.N. Shemseer’ comments is Guru Ratnam Njana Tapaswi, general secretary of Santhigiri Ashramam with head quarters in Thiruvananthapuram.
