Agartala: Vested interest sections with the help of external anti-national forces trying to create unrest in Tripura. Tripura police alerted the state’s people to not fall into the trap of believing rumours created by these anti-national groups. Police said, “Certain persons using fake social media IDs are spreading fake news and rumours on Tripura. It is informed that the law & order situation in the State is absolutely normal.”

Social media is flooded with rumours and fake photographs of a damaged and burnt Masjid of North Tripura. Fake news has been circulated that during a protest rally on Tuesday (October 26) by VHP and Bajrang Dal, a Masjid was set ablaze, and several shops were set on fire by protesters. A section of the media also reported that masjids were burnt during the VHP protest against Hindu killings in Bangladesh. Tripura police, in a statement, clarifies that, “During the protest rally in Panisagar, North Tripura, no masjid was burnt, and the pictures being shared of burning or damaged masjid or collection of sticks etc., are all fake and are not from Tripura. They may be from some other countries. We are trying to find out who uploaded these fake pictures.”

Senior police officials in Agartala said, “Fake ids were created, and rumours and fake pictures were made viral to create unrest. These ids originated from Bangladesh. The damaged masjid picture which went viral is not from Tripura.”

Tripura police further stated, “We request people of all communities not to support & subscribe to such fake IDs and do not spread such fake pictures. We have already registered cases and Legal action will be taken against all those spreading fake news and communally sensitive rumours.”

Anti-national and mischievous elements on Twitter and Facebook are spreading fake news and rumours. The videos and photos that are being spread have no connection with the Panisagar incident. No fire incident occurred at any mosque,” Tripura Inspector General of Police Saurabh Tripathi told the media.

The Tripura police statement further added, “Some vested interests are trying to disturb the peaceful communal situation of Tripura. Tripura police requests every citizen of Tripura to help it in maintaining law and order and peace in Tripura.”
