The video of Muthappan Theyyam blessing a Muslim woman was widely discussed on the social media recently. Muthappan seeing the purdah clad woman standing behind called her to the front and said you are no different and asked her to come near him. Ramlath, a native of Valiya Paramba in Kasargod is in the video.
Ramlath went to her neighbour’s house after knowing that Muthappan Theyyam has come there. Her neighbour organised the Theyyam ritual at his house. She had a 20 rupee note in her hand to give Muthappan. She said that she was the only Muslim woman there and stood behind out of fear. It was at this time Muthappan asking her ‘do you think you are different because of your religion or caste’.
The oneness of Muthappan and Ramlath waved in the media made believer’s eyes filled. It was there in Balakrishnan’s house at Cheruvathoor Padanna sea shore where a thirty seven year old Sanish Peruvannan from karivellur Vellachal manifested lord Muthappan. In between the ritual Muthappan blessed Ramlath and it’s visual became viral in social media.
Ramlath who is suffering a heavy financial crisis has got a lot of help from different parts after this. Some narrow minded neighbours have criticized her also: Though some hostilities were there at first no any such moves from any after that. She said that this is the first time Muthappan embraced and blessed her even though she has been coming to see Muthappan for years.
Her husband Abdul Kareem had lost job two years back. He was a hotel worker in Mumbai. Her elder son is studying in ninth standard and young daughters are in seventh and fourth. Ramlath went to see and get boon from Muthappan because of her financial difficulties. She became sad when Muthappan asked her to wipe her tears and told her that he is there. That is why I told all my worries to him. Some are criticising me for meeting Muthappan. I don’t care about that, she said
Sanil peruvannan is a best Theyyam artiste who presented the deities of Muthappan, Thiruvappana, Anthithara, Kathivanoor Veeran, Bali etc. He worked as a drawing teacher and graphic designer also. At present Sanil peruvannan is living a life fully dedicated to the ritual of Theyyam.
